Brickmakers Barn
This beautiful old Herefordshire brick barn has become home to one of our classic Shaker kitchens. Here, the architect has designed a modern extension for the kitchen space allowing a quirky juxtaposition of styles and materials.
With the ceiling pitch high and two massive glass doors the natural light boldly streams in, illuminating the complete space and allowing the choice of the darkest of colour palettes to work perfectly.
This was to become a holiday cottage, so the remit here was to provide a practical and durable working area for guests. We worked closely with the customer to create an elegant space that would take perhaps a little more punishment than our average kitchen. So, we designed it to be very easy to use, with a simple layout and making sure that everything was to hand. With good quality appliances and durable worksurfaces this kitchen was set to go.
This sociable layout means that the working zone flows seamlessly to dining area and then on to a cosy seating end. It is a space to be enjoyed by the hubbub of gatherings, working so well that you just might, inadvertently bypass the sitting room completely, spending your time cooking, eating and relaxing with friends. We just love this kind of set up.
Style Board: The cabinets are painted in Little Greeneās dark and velvety Lamp Black. This works in perfect contrast to the worktops that are a soft white (marble veined) Quartz called Cortina. All handles and brackets are made by a company called From The Anvil and give that hand forged vibe. The pendant lights were sourced by the customer and match the paint colour perfectly.
