Harmony Cottage
This is a happy day’s kitchen…with its soft shades of sand and hay it exudes an inviting and glowing warmth. The natural textures from the surrounding old wood, wicker and aged brass add perfectly to the general toastiness of the scene.
The remit was to provide a kitchen for general everyday use. This included an added focus on the art of preserving and pickling and all the equipment this profession entails. A dedicated fridge for the production of kimchi and a vented cabinet for mason jars were top of the list. With clever hidden storage, pull-out pan drawers, larder cabinets and carousel corners completing this very specific wish list.
The decision not to have any wall cabinets gives this room an open and airy quality. The light bounces freely around the room, gently illuminating all the corners from top to bottom. The addition of the wooden shelving running around the walls adds an aesthetic touch whilst also providing a perfect place to exhibit and hang favourite items.
This is a thoughtful layout offering both simplicity in design and practicality in use. It works on so many levels and for so many different reasons but mainly to provide a usable and practical workspace and a beautiful working environment.
Style Board: The cabinets are painted in a gloriously sunny colour by Little Greene called Bath Stone. This perfectly complements the soft white marbled worktops which are made from a stunning quartz called Cortina.
