A fabulous old barn with lofty high ceilings and a joyously playful kitchen sitting below. The owner and architect worked together to keep the integrity of this building, making sure the bones of the old vernacular building still shone through. And by leaving some of the original old paint on the stonework and revealing the old beams you really get a feel for what was once there. The remit here was to create a hugely sociable space, carefully and purposely designed for entertaining, music parties (note the disco ball) and shared cooking experiences.
With such a generous amount of room available and this fun remit, it made sense to include a substantial island for all to enjoy. This size worktop allows plenty of communal space for prepping, serving and anything else that’s on the go. Its also a perfect space for a buffet meal to be laid out. Hiding all the appliances behind cabinet doors means this glorious colour can flow uninterrupted around the kitchen cabinetry area. It is like a ray of sunshine and even on a grey day it glows with warmth and happiness. This is a space that invites you in and inspires you to be sociable what ever you may be doing.
Style Board: This fresh and bright palette offers a clean modern look, which contrasts so well with the textures and soft colours of the old building. The kitchen cabinets are painted in Little Greene’s Mr David. The softly marbled white quartz worktops are the ever-popular Cortina.
